Brailing herring onboard 'Virginia', BA66.

Herring are scooped out of the net with a brailer, a long stocking shaped bag attached to an iron hoop on a wooden pole. The tail of the bag is hoisted from the brailer derrick and the fish is emptied into the deck pound or hold. The iron frame can be seen here scoopy the fish out of the net.

To keep the boats apart, crewmen forward in each boat use long poles to fend off.

'Virginia', BA66, was later renamed 'Verbena', BA66, then 'Silver Crest', BA66. She was later reregistered with W32, OB84, and PL10.
